Chris Burdyshaw
South King Fire & Rescue |
Hired, April 2001 with South King Fire and Rescue.
Currently assigned to station 64 on L64 and a Rescue Team member. Like most that gravitate to PEER support I have had the opportunity to be challenged with adversity and came out stronger in the end, I am truly honored to be a part of the PEER support team and to assist brothers and sisters in a time of need. |

James Cromwell
South King Fire & Rescue |
Hello! My name is James Cromwell, I’ve been apart of the fire service for 14yrs. I am currently a LT with South King Fire and Rescue at Station 66. I also serve on our Executive Board as the Trustee for Local #2024. I have been with South King for 11yrs and I was a volunteer FF at Maple Valley Fire for 3yrs prior.
I have been married for 18yrs and have 3 beautiful daughters, 16yo, 14 & 9! I live in Covington, Washington. Love to golf, play softball, watch my girls play soccer and just hang with the family. I joined the Peer Support Team in 2018. I joined because I have experienced some calls that were extremely difficult to deal with. We see things and deal with events that sometimes stick with us. I was glad to have my friends/co-workers there who could relate. So, if you need someone to talk to give me a shout! |
Scott Ervin
South King Fire & Rescue |
Hi, I’m Scott Ervin. I have over 31 years of experience as a career firefighter, beginning my career with Des Moines Fire and then becoming part of the merged department, South King Fire & Rescue. I currently reside in Issaquah and I’m a single father of a 14 and 24 year old boy. One of my priorities has always been the health and safety of the people I work with. I have overseen our SCBA program for a majority of my career; I’m currently an active member of our department’s Safety Committee and Medical Insurance Committee. I’m humbled that I was able to participate in the creation of the document, “Healthy In, Healthy Out.”
Over my career, I have seen many changes, especially as it pertains to the support of our Brothers and Sisters in the fire service. From the days you were considered soft if you showed any weakness, to Critical Incident Debriefing Teams and now to the PEER Support team that I’m excited about. It’s a testament to the Fire Service that we recognize the stressors we face, both on and off the job, and how it affects our lives and our loved ones. Who better to understand these stressors, then the Brothers and Sisters who are on the line and in the heat of the battle with you? We all have different experiences in life, good and bad. If today is that bad day and you need someone to talk with, please reach out to the PEER member that you feel a connection to. If what I have said resonates with you, please reach out to me, I’m available to listen. At the very least, if you are having a bad day, please reach out to someone! |
Ann Hoag
South King Fire & Rescue |
Hi! I’m Ann and I’ve been a Firefighter with South King Fire & Rescue since August of 2015. I’ve been a member of the SKFR Peer Support Team since its inception in May of 2018 and I’m particularly interested in resiliency training as a means to build stronger firefighters from the very beginning of their careers. I love to read, learn, and better myself so if you have or need a book suggestion, hit me up!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, my boyfriend, and his kids (not necessarily in that order); learning to play the bagpipes; cooking for and feeding the people that I love; lifting weights and otherwise exercising; running my small business, Hook & Batter Company, and making cakes (A LOT of cakes); drinking coffee/beer/wine; listening to country music; and working in my garden. I live in South Tacoma and I’m happy to text, call, e-mail, chat in person, or whatever anytime! It would be my honor to get to know you. |

David Michaels
South King Fire & Rescue |
Hi, I’m Dave Michaels with South King and here is a little bit about myself. I was hired in 1991 in Kitsap and after a year there moved to South King Fire (Federal Way back then). I have been married since 1993 to my amazing wife and have 3 wonderful kids. I like to stay active doing a variety of things both on duty and off. Over the years I have seen calls that had great outcomes but I have seen the other end of the spectrum as well. I am here if you ever want to talk, anytime.

No one is perfect and everyone has moments and seasons that they shouldn't have to go through alone. There is always hope. I'm just a husband, father, firefighter and friend that's here to help.

Shane Smith
South King Fire & Rescue |
I was born and raised in South Los Angeles and grew up in a family of law enforcement. I
began my firefighting career professionally in Southern California in 1991, soon after I moved out of California to Southern Idaho where I worked as a firefighter and later, as a paramedic. I met my wife Lori and step son Colton in Idaho, and together we have two girls Tristyn and Makenna. Our family moved to Western Washington in 2003 where I am currently a Captain assigned to Station 62. Lori and I have been married for over 23 years and have spent many years following our daughter’s high school and collegiate volleyball careers. Professionally, I have had a long time passion for training and special operations. I am a member of Washington Task Force 1 and currently hold the position of Rescue Squad Officer. My off time is predominately spent with family and friends often in the high country pursuing my passion for the outdoors. |
