Port of Seattle Peer Support
Peer support members are not counselors but are covered by confidentiality and privileged communication per RCW 5.60.060.
My name is Jake Murry and I am a Battalion Chief for the Port of Seattle Fire Department. I am a father of three; two teenage daughters (17 and 15) and a 12-year-old son. I have been married for over 17 years to a great woman who is also a public servant.
In my 20-year career in the fire service I have seen the tough stuff, lost brothers and sisters to illness and suicides and have had my own personal struggles with alcohol. One of the most important things I have learned over my years in the fire service is that you have to commutate your thoughts, your feelings and your emotions to be successful. Our significant others, our families and our children can easily be affected by our lack of communication and destructive behaviors. Please reach out to your brothers and sisters in the fire service for help when you need it….or better yet…..before you need it. That one phone call could be the call that changes your life for the better! I am available 24/7. |
I've been at the Port of Seattle since 2014 and love it here. In my free-time I am an avid cyclist and have completed a 4000+ mile trip across the United States. I'm also recently married. Peer Support is important to me because I've lost multiple friends over the years to suicide or other mental health related issues, and I want to be available for anyone who is going through anything, whether big or small. I'm happy to talk. |
